LayerCompass Tools

Calculate instead of guessing.

Practical tools for troubleshooting, material selection, print cost, volumetric flow, layer height, profile planning and filament efficiency.

Which tool should I use?

Each calculator solves a different problem. Start with your goal — troubleshooting, material, cost, speed, scaling or multi-material — then open the matching tool.

3D Printing Troubleshooter

Use it when a print fails visually or functionally and you want a prioritized diagnosis instead of randomly changing slicer settings.

Open tool →

Print Time & Filament Optimizer

Use it when a print takes too long or consumes too much material and you want to identify the changes with the largest realistic impact.

Open tool →

Filament Selector

Use it when choosing between PLA, PLA+, PETG, ASA, ABS, TPU, PA, PC, HT-PLA or fiber-filled variants based on the actual application.

Open tool →

3D Print Cost Calculator

Use it to estimate what a print actually costs for hobby projects, commissioned printing, quotations or comparing production variants.

Open tool →

Volumetric Flow Calculator

Use it to check whether a target speed is compatible with line width, layer height and the real melt-flow limit of the hotend and filament.

Open tool →

Layer Height Calculator

Use it to choose a sensible layer height for your nozzle and your goal between detail, balanced, functional and fast printing.

Open tool →

Nozzle, Layer & Speed Planner

Use it when you want to plan nozzle size, line width, layer height and speed as one system instead of tuning each parameter independently.

Open tool →

Filament Length & Weight Calculator

Use it to convert grams to meters or meters to grams for remaining spool estimates, planning, material comparisons or purchasing.

Open tool →

3D Scale & Fit Calculator

Use it when an STL/3MF model must reach a target dimension, model scale or printer build volume, including a fit check and uniform scaling.

Open tool →

Multi-Color Waste Calculator

Use it to estimate material, cost and time lost to color/material changes, purge and prime tower, or to quantify the benefit of an optimization.

Open tool →

Filament Calibration Assistant

Use it when a filament needs a repeatable calibration workflow instead of random changes to temperature, flow, PA, retraction and MVS.

Open assistant →

Dimensional Accuracy & Shrinkage

Use it when a functional part is too small, too large or has incorrect holes despite correct CAD dimensions.

Open calculator →

Skew & Squareness

When X/Y measurements disagree or rectangular parts are not truly square despite plausible edge lengths.

Frequently asked questions about LayerCompass tools

Are the tools free and usable without an account?

Yes. LayerCompass tools run directly in the browser and do not require a user account.

Are the results exact measurements?

Not always. Calculators produce mathematical results from your inputs; the selector, optimizer and troubleshooter also use rules and prioritization. Material, printer and process variation still matter.

Which tool should I start with for an unknown print problem?

Start with the 3D Printing Troubleshooter. If the diagnosis points to material, flow, layer or efficiency, move to the relevant specialist calculator.

Why are several tools cross-linked?

Many 3D-printing decisions overlap. A larger nozzle changes useful layer heights and flow demand, while multi-material affects time and consumption. Cross-links make those dependencies easier to follow.
