Illustration for Ringing / Ghosting

Ringing happens when the motion system oscillates after a rapid acceleration change. The pattern typically starts at a feature and fades as distance from that feature increases.

How do you recognize it?

  • Waves behind sharp corners
  • Pattern fades away from the edge
  • Worse at higher acceleration

Common causes

  • Motion-system resonance
  • Acceleration too high for the machine
  • Loose or flexible mechanics
  • Missing or poor input-shaper calibration

What should you check first?

  1. Inspect mechanics for play.
  2. Measure/calibrate Input Shaper where supported.
  3. Reduce acceleration only as much as necessary.
