Hosting and server logs
The website is hosted with Namecheap. When pages are accessed, technical server log data such as IP address, time, requested resource, referrer and browser information may be processed to operate and secure the website. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in a secure and reliable website under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. Where processing is necessary for contractual or pre-contractual purposes, Article 6(1)(b) GDPR may additionally apply.
Contact by email
If you contact us by email, we process your message and the contact details it contains to handle your request. Article 6(1)(b) GDPR applies where the request concerns a contract or pre-contractual steps; otherwise the processing is based on our legitimate interest in responding appropriately to enquiries under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR.
We use GMX, a service of 1&1 Mail & Media GmbH, Karlsruhe branch, Brauerstr. 48, 76135 Karlsruhe, Germany, for receiving email. The communication and message content required for email delivery are therefore processed through the email provider's systems.
Tool Feedback Form
When you use our Tool Feedback form, we process the selected tool, feedback type and description. Printer, slicer, material and email address are optional fields.
We use this information only to review the report, ask follow-up questions where appropriate, correct issues and improve LayerCompass tools. If you voluntarily provide an email address, it is used only for follow-up concerning that specific feedback. We do not use Tool Feedback data for newsletters, advertising or other marketing.
The legal basis is our legitimate interest in quality assurance, troubleshooting and the appropriate development of our tools under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. If a submission exceptionally relates to contractual or pre-contractual matters, Article 6(1)(b) GDPR may additionally apply.
Form submissions are also stored as non-public entries in the WordPress system so feedback is not lost if email delivery fails. An email notification is additionally sent to layerkompass@gmx.de. The communication and message content required for delivery are therefore also processed by our email service provider, GMX / 1&1 Mail & Media GmbH.
We delete feedback and related contact details when they are no longer needed for review, follow-up, implementation or necessary internal documentation, unless statutory retention duties or the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims require longer storage.
Aggregated Tool Usage Statistics and External Fonts
For interactive LayerCompass tools we keep our own aggregated counters, such as tool views, actual tool interactions and, in the 3D Printing Troubleshooter, the selected symptom. These statistics do not store IP addresses, user accounts, fingerprints or other visitor identifiers. They are used solely to improve the technical and editorial quality of our tools on the basis of our legitimate interest under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR.
The current LayerCompass theme does not use external analytics, advertising or profiling services and does not load Google Fonts from external servers. If additional services are added later, this policy will be updated before they are used where required.
Your rights
Subject to the legal requirements, you may have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and data portability, as well as the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
Retention
Unless a more specific retention rule is stated above, personal data is deleted when the purpose of processing no longer applies and no statutory retention obligation or other lawful reason for continued storage remains.
